This was actually my favorite part about my trip home, I’ve been wanting to hang out with my little cousin Trenton for ages! Well, I think the term is second cousin, since he’s the son of my cousin Kristin, but who’s counting, eh?

Anyway, Trenton’s a real sharp kid, just had an odd up-bringing.

Not to say he isn’t well adjusted, he’s always really polite, and kid’s king of the school yard from what he tells me, and he does pretty well in school. Which is great, I’m proud he’s made the best of a less than normal situation.

So I took him to the comic shop near him, “Fourth World”, which is hands down the best comic shop I’ve been to in the 22 years I’ve been alive, and I figure this would be a great opportunity to get him into some comics, I offered to buy him any book in the store, since he’s apparently big into Dragon Ball Z, he ended up getting the first volume of DragonBall. A good place to start, methinks, Akira Toriyama is a great jumping point into the world of comics, a good style, fun story, and plenty of fighting to keep a 9-year old occupied.

Now, I gave him the choice between seeing UP or Wolverine: Origins, but since he’s supposed to go see UP with his family next week, he vehemently chose Wolverine, because, c’mon, he’s a kid, he wants to see a superhero beat the crap or of other people.

Jesus Christ. It sucked. It sucked sooo hard.

But, I had to stick it out for my little cousin. I guess this is how it’s going to be whenever I have children, and they want to see some really shitty movies. Lord help me. But hey, he seemed to like it, well, aside from there not being enough blood of course! Afterwards, I dropped him off with his mother then dumped a whole load of some of my old Manga and Legos, and a mannequin, since he’d been getting into drawing lately, I wanted to see if maybe I could help nuture his abilities, like my cousin Shaun did for me when I was a kid.

I’m sure he’ll freak out to see that I drew him into the comic, and I can’t wait to see him the next time I visit! Good Luck Trent, you’re going places! And keep drawing!
