I know my update schedule’s been a bit wonky, letting myself go for a couple of days while I worked on that guest comic and other things, but I’m getting back to work, for YOU!

It’s really astonishing, that I’ve been drawing this comic for one year, I may have faltered on not covering a few days, but I think I’ve reached some sort of milestone in the Odyssey.
And really, I just want to thank a whole boatload of people, first off, I really can’t thank my good friend Pranas enough, when he started up Inkdick, it really lit a fire under my ass to get back on daily comics again, and to really bring it to a new level. I’d be lying if I said alot of things he’s done hadn’t influenced me in anyway. And I know that he’s always give me an honest critique on my work.
Secondly, I have to thank the late Jeremy ‘Sweetwater’ Mullins, because without his help, this website wouldnt look half as cool as it does today. I probably would have given up and went on comics genesis or drunk duck or some shitty host. He really pushed me to have my own website and really give it my own personal touch. I only wished he could have still been around, I surely would have bought him a beer for all he’s done.
And really, I can’t do the daily odyssey without all the crazy motherfuckers I come into contact with, or else it’d be just about me sitting around all day. So, Thank you:
Brannon, Rashad, Marion, Josh, Greg, Pranas, Amy, Knickerbocker, Bullett, Andrew, Burkhalter, Jarret, BigJosh, Ricky, Kell, Jose, Wheeler, Jon-Erik, Martyn, David Duncan, Joey Weiser, John, Dave, Dana, Brad, Kirstin, Birdie, Matt Johnson, Matt, Melanie, Dave Bednar, Mike, Jason, Marrisa, Chemise, DJ, Mom, Dad, Katie, and um, if I forgot anyone.. um, thank you!!
And thanks to the fans, I probably wouldn’t still bedoing this if I didn’t have such a cool following!
Here’s for… 15 more days until i start Brightleaf, Woohoo!
Holy cow, was this a crazy day. Thankfully Id already lugged my crap into the artist alley the night before, so I was fully prepared in that respect, but after setting up my meager table, I knew not what awaited me:
And to start off… woo yeah, slow going. people barely each stopped to look at the prints, almost as if they were afraid of some sort of punishment for touching it! I’ll have to find a friendlier way to show off the prints next time.
The comics were getting some good look-over time, though I began to doubt the idea was good. After I while I started to get really bored while con-goers waddled about the floor, and not looking at my stuff, Kara, Witney and Cali, my partners in crime, assured me that friday’s were always slow, and it always picks up on Saturday.
While this may be true,I became extremely restless, and decided to wander the floor with my good friend Tom, who I’d known for years via the information super highway, and so we decided to visit the dealer’s room to find the true treasure I was searching for:
After that small spurt, and a recharge of the tummy-tank, I was back in the alley, and I’d learned that some folk had stopped by to see me! And they left their names on my guestbook.
So, I started sketching Captain’ K’nuckles, since I really didn’t have anything going on, and I left the sketch on the table, and THAT caught people’s attention! Suddenly people would actually stop in their tracks to see me! I’d stumbled on a secret weapon…
But then I decided to go get inebreated with Tom and watch the dub of Evangelion 1.0, and that was pretty sweet. Afterwards, we were going to a panel about voice acting, but the line was too damned long, so we decided to part ways and get some sleep.
A perfect end to a perfect day! Perhaps tommorow will show prominence?! FIND OUT SOON!
(Note: The Otakon Experience is atleast 10% time spent waiting on lines to see something, it’s a must, since there’s about 30,000 nerds running about the damned place!)
This Adventure Brought to You By: Rifftrax! Spice up a shitty movie with commentary tracks from the comedic talents from MST3K!
Anyhow, what a weird situation to be put in, what are you supposed to do when everyone but you runs out on a movie. Which was terrible but the rifftrax definetly made it super funny to watch. Marion has the habit of being a little ADD at times (we all do), but it felt pretty crappy to have things end suddenly.
I’d like to be a little more understanding, but she simply wouldnt tell me what bugged her and why she had to cut the movie short, so I really don’t know what happend. If it was something life threatening or equally important, then I’d apologize for being miffed, but for now, I simply don’t know what to think, other than “What the hell?”
But the real problem here is the twilight movie, don’t see it unless you have the Rifftrax, it’s a terrible, terrible movie. Aaaauugh.
Another auspicious entry into Guest Quest by Daily Odyssey super fan Melanie Pritchard! The first person to recognize me in public, and to leave weird messages on my car while I was at work finally got the chance to draw an odyssey, and gee shucks if it aint the cutest ever?!
Since Mother’s Day always seemed to land near finals, it was always pretty hectic the four years I’d been going to SCAD to find the time to buy a card let alot draw one for my Mom, so this year I felt the need to really put my all into a wonderful card. I just wish I could have seen her reaction!

Since she’s lived pretty much all her life on Long Island, and been very close to the beaches, she’s always had a thing for lighthouses, so I figured drawing after a famed spot would be a good start.
I felt pretty good, since she actually thought I’d just drawn my little cartoony self over a pre-exisitng piece of art of the location. That, or she was just trying to feed me ego, like all mothers do. I probably could have done half the work and she still would have loved it, but I went all out goddammit! I love my mom! RAGH!!
Brett talking to people?! People who are girls?! Oh my will the farcities ever end?!
Thank goodness for comics, my only ice-breaker.
Adventure #260: Brightleaf and The Sojourn into Web2.0
by on April 16, 2009 at 10:05 pmSo I was looking at a few webcomics my friends have been running, and just webcomics in general, and I just got to thinking that, perhaps with the discipline I’ve built up with The Daily Odyssey, that maybe I’d be able to actually pull off a full fledged serial webcomic!
My only fear is that I’d also be writing a full story, and that I might miss the ability to play around and experiment with my style and colors, like today for example! I just had this idea out of the blue, to see how fast I could churn out a comic of this size. I think I pulled it off relitively well.
So here’s the question I pose, what do you guys think of dedicated story webcomic VS. journal webcomics. YOU DECIDE!
It’s been a very long night… I think I’m going to pass out as soon as that Podcast stop recording. I’ve been printing comics all day long, and yes, you two can own the first five months of the Daily Odyssey in minincomic form!
Hope to see you there at the Zine Fair!
Okay, so I’ve still got a little Japanophile left in me. But for good reason!
Going on that Japan trip was possibly the most crazy-awesome experience of my life, so I just can’t help but gush when other people mention it. I sometimes feel like I’m acting like a real braggart, but I can’t help it! And I tell you, if you get more than one person who went on that trip in a room, then that conversation won’t stop for hours.
I guess it’s just being in another country that just opens your eyes so much. And it’s pretty rare to get an opportunity like that, so there’s that. I dunno, what do you think? And have any of you not been able to shut up about your foreign visits?
