Hey guys, I wanted to try some speedpainting… so I did.
BTW I kinda don’t update this alot, but you know what I do update weekly?
Well, this is something drove me truly nuts today, so I figured it had to be put into comic form.
So, pretty much, I’m a pussy and ran from the colission, then fessed up, and found out that I probably would have been better off acting like a man in the first place. Then I got my dick caught in my pants zipper, so it all evens out in the end!
Also, they were playing the Beatles all day in the store, so that softened the blow on alot of my self-inflicted harm.
I know my update schedule’s been a bit wonky, letting myself go for a couple of days while I worked on that guest comic and other things, but I’m getting back to work, for YOU!
I tend to misjudge my abilities… or atleast, I misjudge the amount of time I use on dicking around on the internet. Anyhow, I’ve been working on a guest strip to for the wonderful: Eros Inc, that should be out on friday!
Anyhow, 5 strips to go!
Ever since I listened to my favorite videogame flavored podcast: Retronauts, I’ve had a reimerging of love for the one of the first portable gaming systems: The Gameboy! Sure, it’s graphics are ancient, and even the most low-tech of phones could run it’s games, but there’s such a charm to them. So for the time being I’ve hung up my DS, and I’m playing a few games I’ve never gotten the chance to play!
Nostalgia can be an easy demon to give into, but man, it can really make you feel great after a crappy day at work!
Speaking of which, if any has a copy Wario Land laying around, why not toss it my way, eh?
It’s really astonishing, that I’ve been drawing this comic for one year, I may have faltered on not covering a few days, but I think I’ve reached some sort of milestone in the Odyssey.
And really, I just want to thank a whole boatload of people, first off, I really can’t thank my good friend Pranas enough, when he started up Inkdick, it really lit a fire under my ass to get back on daily comics again, and to really bring it to a new level. I’d be lying if I said alot of things he’s done hadn’t influenced me in anyway. And I know that he’s always give me an honest critique on my work.
Secondly, I have to thank the late Jeremy ‘Sweetwater’ Mullins, because without his help, this website wouldnt look half as cool as it does today. I probably would have given up and went on comics genesis or drunk duck or some shitty host. He really pushed me to have my own website and really give it my own personal touch. I only wished he could have still been around, I surely would have bought him a beer for all he’s done.
And really, I can’t do the daily odyssey without all the crazy motherfuckers I come into contact with, or else it’d be just about me sitting around all day. So, Thank you:
Brannon, Rashad, Marion, Josh, Greg, Pranas, Amy, Knickerbocker, Bullett, Andrew, Burkhalter, Jarret, BigJosh, Ricky, Kell, Jose, Wheeler, Jon-Erik, Martyn, David Duncan, Joey Weiser, John, Dave, Dana, Brad, Kirstin, Birdie, Matt Johnson, Matt, Melanie, Dave Bednar, Mike, Jason, Marrisa, Chemise, DJ, Mom, Dad, Katie, and um, if I forgot anyone.. um, thank you!!
And thanks to the fans, I probably wouldn’t still bedoing this if I didn’t have such a cool following!
Here’s for… 15 more days until i start Brightleaf, Woohoo!
Mind you, these discoveries where made within 10 seconds of eachother.
Well, the first one, I could understand, just some teenaged goofball wanting to be a troublemaker, showing off some titties in public, hilarious!
And the sears kart was just odd, since Sears is on the complete opposite of the mall. It was completely empty and sitting litterally in the middle of the cafe.
And the pants? You’ve got me. Frankly, some things are better left unsaid.’
I love our customers!!!
Okay, so in essence, I ditched the whole indy vibe I tried to hold up for the convention, but in all honesty, I really just wanted to make the money I spent on the table back, and gee golly gosh did I!
The whole weekend was just a great lesson in con-tabling for me. And while I’ve been to SPX, I didn’t really know how to pull off a really good eye-catching table until now! Anime con-tablers has a real knack at eye-catching, they know how to put what people want to see most out there so it can real people in, and the answer, is fanart!
That’s right, me doodling Flapjack is why I sold nearly any comics, with out those sketches, I would have had a few dubious stares like the day before, and next to no sales, or any face time at all! So, I’ve decided to set up an entirely new mantra to con-tabling, with the art of the eye-catch.
Of course, this mostly includes anime and comic conventions, when I go to SPX this fall, I’m going to need to exercise a little more subtlety, since I’d like to be taken a little seriously, but I still want to actually make some sort of money. So I’ll probably make a few prints to sell, or whatever. All I know is that Otakon made me rethink how I table.
So anyway, without further a-do, here’s what I call the commission gallery, sorry for the bad quality, but I just took quicky pictures before I gave them to the commissionee:

My first Commission! I actually sniped it from my table-mate Cali when she admitted she didnt know bout Lupin.

Drawn for Esca and her boyfriend, they commissioned me to draw alot of their characters! I was really flattered!
Well, that’s all for today, tune in tommorrow for the Post-Con depression, yay!
While I can’t be too sure that this particular customer has “special needs”, I can be sure, since he did exhibit odd speech patterns, and let’s face it, anyone who blurts that out very loud in public can’t have all their marbles.
Then again, he probably wasn’t any smarter than most of the customers I put up with OHH SNAAPPP!!!
Yeah, I mean, how could somebody take such an original idea, eh?
So apparently DRAWN by Kevin has elected to take the incriminating evidence down, and I’ll tell you, the first comic was a literal rip from my May 20th, 2009 comic, it was pretty bad. Though atleast now his style seems to have evolved a little so it doesn’t completely look like a carbon copy of my strip.
I’ve tweeted with the little fellow since then, and he’s a big fan, but still, it’s not something you do to a fellow cartoonist!
I’d still encourage him to learn to get your pencils, and inks and sense of black placement down before you start trying to wow the internet with your photoshop skills. A lil’ tip from Uncle Brett!
But as infuriated as I got, it was soon replaced with a wonderful feeling of flattery. I mean, if somebody’s copying my work, that has to mean I’ve been doing something right, eh?!
What good/bad day!
