This is a shout out to Hecksher Park, you were a wonderful hub of exploration and wilderness for my early lifetime.
I loved the ability to dodge the recess wenches by ducking into the woods, and seeing what secrets we could find in the brush (such as fire pits and boozes left over from he teens who were around the nights before). Or somewhere to head off to after school when we were bored.
Though my absolute favorite thing to do was to hop on my bike and visit “The Bahas”, bike paths scattered around the park, the most infamous was “The Watertower”, which incidentally was placed right next to a watertower, and created in ways unknown even to this day. It was like a skate park for BMXers, and was the source of alot of my childhood cuts and scrapes. Man, I don’t ride my bike enough anymore… though I probably would if the 300$ bike I’d gotten in my freshman year hadn’t been stolen!
So yeah, this is my love letter to the crazy paths and shortcuts we all found and forged in our youth, and I hope to find and create my own this year on my voyage to Fluke, I want to find the little nooks and crannies in that crazy college town! Lords knows there’s about a million of them.
