My friend Mike had told me about this comic shop in Pooler, GA, which is about a 15 minutes ride: Galactic Comics & Games.
By far, it’s much classier than the three in Savannah. They had a good selection by my eyes, not enough on the “indy” side in my opinion, but a very clean layout, and no creepy porn dungeon! Though they definitely seemed more about table top gaming than comics.
The Owner’s father even pulled us back to show us the gaming room, where he’d built a recreation of the Mines of Mordor from LOTR, and then told us how it’d be packed during the week. That was pretty interesting, but since I’m not a tabletop gamer, it’s not going to be a real draw.
Though he was very insistent on alot of things, he really needed us to come back, because when I asked him how business was, he answered pretty clearly: “Struggling”.
Its sad to see this as the norm for most comic shops. And with the economy as it is, I don’t think Galactic’s going to make it. But I want that shop to surprise me, and still be there whenever I return in the next 3 months.

*whips out his geek cred*
MINES OF MORIA!!!! Not Mordor.
